Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal
One job first, on your own documents. You see it working. Then we see whether it earned the next thing. You do not have to understand any of it.
Nothing of yours is stored. Named people only. Ballito, working with businesses across South Africa.
How the first job works. A short conversation is enough to tell whether there is something worth building. If there is, we build that one thing around how you already work. You see it on your own documents, not on a demonstration. You cover what it costs to run. If it has not earned the next thing, we say so.
How we work
Most automation disappoints because somebody tried to fix everything at once, on paper, before anyone had used anything.
A short conversation about what repeats. You usually know the answer before we do, because it is the thing you dread on a Monday.
Small and focused, doing that one job properly. You see it working on your own documents, not on a demonstration.
Your team tells us what is annoying and we change it. Then, if it has earned it, we look at the next thing.
A job that is live
A short-term insurance brokerage in KwaZulu-Natal used to read insurer schedules by hand and type the client summary, the quote comparison and the claims note. That is hours, every week, after the skilled part of the job is already done.
They now drop the PDF in. The summary comes out in their own house style, in under a minute. A person still checks every figure before it goes to a client. Names, ID numbers and account details are stripped in the browser before anything is sent, and put back on the document they download.
That is the shape of the work. Not a chatbot. Not a rented system with eight features they will never use. One repeating job, built around how they already work.
Where else it starts
If the brokerage job is not yours, it is usually one of these. Same method: one repeating thing, on your own work.
A customer asks about prices or a booking after you have put the phone down. By morning they have gone elsewhere. The same number they already use can answer properly, take the booking, and leave you a note to read with coffee.
Invoices raised, priced and sent on the day they are due, with the figures already reconciled. Quotes out while the client is still interested. The follow-up everyone hates doing, done.
The system you rent every month probably does ten things and you use two. We build those two properly, around your business, and you stop paying rent on the other eight.
In plain English
People hear the word and picture robots, or a plan to cut staff. In practice it is duller than that, and far more useful.
Automation is software doing the parts of a job that follow the same steps every single time. Reading a document and pulling out what matters. Answering the question you have already answered four hundred times. Moving the same information from one place to another. Writing the first draft of the letter you always write.
None of that is the skilled part of anybody's job. It is the part that keeps them at their desk after five.
A thirty page document lands in the inbox and somebody reads all of it to produce two pages the client will actually read.
Those two pages are drawn up in under a minute, in your own format. Your person checks and sends, which is the part that needs them.
A customer messages at eight in the evening. By the time you reply in the morning they have booked somewhere else.
They get a proper answer in seconds and the booking is on your diary. You read what was said over coffee.
Month end. Invoices assembled by hand from three places, checked, sent one at a time, then chased two weeks later.
Issued on the first, with the figures already reconciled, and the polite follow-up sent on the day it falls due.
Why Luma exists
I spent years working long hours and still feeling behind. Not because I was not working hard enough, but because manual admin was eating my time. Unnecessary, repetitive work that followed me home every night.
Then I had a son, and everything changed. I started looking for a way to stop bringing work home, and I found it. I taught myself to automate the admin, and for the first time I was actually present. At home. With my family. Not on my phone.
That is what Luma is built on. I am not selling software. I am handing on something I wish I had found sooner, and I would like every business owner stuck in the same grind to have it too.
Your information
Some of the work we do sits next to other people's personal information. The tool is designed around that, not patched afterwards.
If you have a compliance officer, we will take them through the rest in detail, including who sits in the chain under POPIA.
Get in touch
We are based in Ballito, on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast. Most first conversations are local. The work can be anywhere in South Africa.
WhatsApp is the fastest. One short conversation is usually enough to tell whether there is something here worth building. If there is not, we will say so.
